The last starating point that I picked up is Cars. It is a wide-range theme for doing research. First, I have done a mindmap on it, expanded ideas from 5 directions. It starts form history of cars. Then, civilian cars and motor sports also included. Automotive fuels that cars currently using. Car tuning (Modification) is popular and welcomed by young people who wish to own a unique or a power enhanced car.

Also, there are pictures/photographs/concept arts below are really helpful to understand the theme. A few shot videos are useful to explore and understand car tuning; types of car fuels, history of cars and the WRC motor racing.

A car (or automobile) is a wheeled moto vehicle used for transportation. Most definitions of cars say they run primarily on roads, seat one to eight people, have four tires, and mainly transport rather than goods.
Picture

Car History and civilian cars

Back to 132 years ago, the first internal combustion engine powered car has invented by Carl Friedrich Benz in Karlsruhe, Germany. In the next year, the furst 4-wheels car has invented by another german, Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler. They are the founders of Mercedes-Benz, a famous vehicle manufactural company.
In the beginning, car is a rare and luxurious private owned item. Another famous vehicle company, Ford, has designed and manufactured Ford Model T. This model is a revolutionary product that made cars became normal, inexpensive product.
Nowadays, civilian car developed to diverse categories. These generally include SUV (sport utility vehicle, for example, Range Rover), ORV (Off-Road vehicle, for example, Jeep Wrangler), MPV (Multi-purpose vehicle, for example, SEAT Alhambra), passenger cars (diverse sizes), Supercar (Ferrari 458), Coupe (Mercedes-Benz C class Coupe) and Roadster (Porsche 718 boxster).
Petrol or diesel are ideal source of energies for cars. However, people and governments are promoting environmental protection. Therefore, car manufacturers are trying to use natural gas, electricity, even solar energy to power cars as ideal clean energies.

Motor sports

There are over hundred championships for cars in the world. Those championships have classified to different levels by speed limitations, vehicle types, rules and scales.
Open wheel racing includes the top speed racing Formula 1 and karting, etc.
Rallying takes place on public or private roads with modified production or specially built road-legal cars. For example, WRC (World Rally Championship).
The FIA World Touring Car Championship was an international touring car championship promoted by Eurosport Events and sanctioned by the FIA. DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) is a similar championship runs in Germany.
The World Endurance Championship (WEC) follows much of the format of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and features nine endurance races across the world, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with all races at least 6 hours in duration.

Research - War

16/10/2018

War, is one of the 4 themes that I will persent on Friday. It definitely is a wide-range topic for doing research. First, I have done a mindmap on topic "War", expanded ideas from 5 directions. It includes gains and adverse impact form wars, politics in wars, civilians in wars and armaments may use or developing in wars.
Also, there are pictures/photographs/concept arts below are really helpful to understand "War". A few shot videos are useful to explore and understand what circumstance of people during wars; how powerful and the perniciousness of nuclear weapons, how could the WW1 changed the world and history , and weapons used in ancient Chinese wars.
Picture
The mind map includes some ideas on gains (profit) from wars and 'adverse impact'. Also 'Politics' are important to understand how politicians controlled states and circumstance of people during wars. 'Armaments' to focus on different types of weapons in militaries from ancient period to modern world.

War is a state of armed conflict between states, governments, societies and informal paramilitary groups, such as mercenaries, insurgents and militias. It is generally characterized by extreme violence, aggression, destruction, and mortality, using regular or irregular military forces.

Gains and loss in wars

Who pays for a war? Who get profits form a war? One thing I clearly understand, war takes a lot for civilians and violates the will of people,  throughout ages. Death is definately a fear of human. However a war would cause soldiers and civilians to lose their lifes, even affects their families and friends. This is the main reason of population decline. The country would be in a circumstance of manpower shortage and talents in various industries.
Moreover, Family dissension and reputation loss might be caused by wars. Also, soldiers and cilvilans may lose their properties and health, in other words, homeless and disability that nobody wants to happend on itself.
War also causes financial loss and nation status loss. National financial loss usually called treasury loss, then foreign debts increase, currency devaluation, tax growth, etc. Even International aids are important for some countries. Nation status loss would decrease the voice and influence in International organisations.
Wars are evil and hateful, but wars definitely make profits to aggressors and their allies. Profits usually are the reasons to start a war. For example, expanding lands, increase population from conquered regions, non-renewable resource.

Armaments (Weapons)

There are thousand kinds of weapons in the world. Nowadays, chemistry; science and high technologies help militaries to rise their strength and influence. Looking the past, soldiers used cold weapons, such as sword or hammer, in armies. Wherever in Eastern or Western ancient world, soldiers armed in similar ways. The biggest difference is the design of armour and weapons.
From the 20th century, militaries are gradually abandoned 'cold weapons', transferred to modern armaments. When the first tank "Mark I" appeared on the battlefield in 1916, "Tank" was destined written into history and to be developed in the future. Also, airplane is a huge invention on early twentieth Century. It undoubtedly realised the dream of human to fly in the sky by self manipulate device. Missiles are able to directly hit targets on thousand miles away, it is unimaginable in the past.
Nuclear weapons are dangerous. Since the nuclear bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan, the world pattern has been changed. The World War two ended in the same year. Nowadays, nuclear weapons are valued by scientists and as a backup means to protect countries.

Research - Travel

Travel, is one of the 4 starting points. It is a wide-range topic for doing the research if compares to some topics on the list. First, I have done a mindmap on topic "Travel",  have found some information from internet that may relevant to it. Then, pictures/photographs are really helpful to understand "Travel". Also, A few shot videos are useful to explore the purposes of travel to understand how do people usually travel; what transport do they use, and where do they prefer to live.
Picture
The mind map contains some ideas on 'Tourist accommodations' and 'purposes'. Also 'Traffic' are important to understand what transport tools people usually choose. 'Time managment' to discover how a traveller allocate time in a day.

Tourist Accommodations

What types accommodation would be chosen by travelers? It depends on consumer groups and their consumption opinions. Most travelers prefer to live in hotels while they traveling rather than other types of accommodation. Hotels normally provide a quieter, safer and more private space for lodgers. Also contains better service, luxury decoration and convenient place.
Hostels and cottages also good choices for some travelers due to cheaper cost. Homestay is usually for people who has a long time stay demand. Campsite is usually based on remote regions. Also B&B (bed and breakfast) is popular in worldwide. Travelers cost a low price for a short period overnight stay, include a breakfast.
Nowadays, most young people prefer to reserve accommodation on mainstream websites, such as Booking, Airbnb, also Ctrip is quite popular in China. Some people prefer travel retail stores or get information from magazine, newspaper.

Purposes of travelling

Travel is the mover of people between distant geographical locations. Travel can be done by foot, bicycle, automobile, train, boat, coach, airplane other means, with or without luggage. And can be one way or round trip. There are many reasons make people to plan a travel. I generally sort those reasons in three different types: Business/educational trip, visit, and relax/looking for fun.
The purpose of business or educational trip is not for fun, but specific aims on business or education. For example, a business trip can achieve a successful business negotiation that helps company to set up a good relationship with others. An educational trip is aimed to provide knowledge or opportunity of research to students.
Some people go travelling is aimed to visit specific person or groups. This can increase feelings between them. For example, it would be very impressive if a traveller go visit the best friend who has a job overseas.

Research - Magic

13/10/2018

Magic, is one of the 4 starting points. I recognized it is a wide-range topic for doing the research. At the first, I have done a brainstorm on "Magic",  found some information from internet that may relevant to the topic. Then, pictures/photographs are really helpful to understand the topic "Magic". Also, A few short videos are discovered the history of magic in supernatural and modern  illusion magic in depth.
Picture
The brainstorm has explored points include 'Illusion magic' and 'Supernatural Magic'. Also 'religions' are important to understand the opinions in Western and Eastern ancient world. 'Supernatural phenomenons' are the phenomenons that have not been solved by humanity.
Magic (Supernatural):

The definition of supernatural magic is, the power to use supernayural forces to make impossible things happen.
Of coruse, this kind of 'magic' always appears in fictions stories or movies. No one can confirm that supernatural magic is exist or imaginary in reality. For example, Anachrony (space-time problem), people missing and loudly mysterious sound. Also crop circles are deemed made by supernatural power, even extra-terrestrial (Alien).
Generally, we sort supernatural magic as 'white magic' and 'black magic'. the former mostly for selfless purposes such as to heal some one. The latter mostly for evil and selfish purposes, for instant, to murder or steal.

Magic (illusion)

The definition of illusion magic, is a performing art in which audiences are entertained by staged tricks or illusions of seemingly impossible feats using natural means.
In other words, illusion magic is exist in reality and it is a kind of 'artificial miracle' that makes by speedy techniques.

I have discovered the history of illusion magic. Although the origin is unknown, the earliest evidence was found in Egypt. A magic trick called "Cups and Balls", usually performing by artists who hired for royal families.
This kind of performance was banned by churches, the controller of rights on Europe in Middle Ages. It is commonly believed, illusion magic tricks were launch by black magic in that period.
It became popular from mid 20th century, carry forwarded by Harry Houdini, a famous American magician.

This is a new start of me, also a final year of the study. After receiving our project brief from Adam, we begun an exercise showing how to look for areas of interest for the first research stages. I worked in pairs with Cosmin and were asked what made us cry, laugh, angry, excited, what are interests us and what makes us intellectually stimulated.  We wrote down all things that we could thought. So below are the results that give me potential starting points for the research in next few weeks.

Also, below are images of the mind maps we have done. Then, we shared our ideas with other groups. Some of the results may different because I referred and combined great ideas from others.

Some ideas by us will have very limited conditions of research, which means probably there are not so many data or relevant materials to support those ideas. Therefore I choose ideas that we thought suitable for doing research  on them. Anyway, I will select 4 ideas from the list to be start points. To explore more in depth on the next week.
